The Virginia Environmental Literacy Network views environmental literacy as a life-long learning journey cultivated through formal and nonformal educational experiences that spark inspiration, enhance critical thinking, improve physical and mental health, and empower learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to fuel a greener economy and shape a more resilient and equitable region. The Network’s North Star Purpose

To ensure every person in Virginia has access to high-quality environmental education, including but not limited to outdoor education experiences and opportunities to take action through the school curriculum and within local communities

The Network Tapestry Team

The Network takes a holistic approach that involves representatives from various sectors and state-wide networks. The Network centers cross connections, communications, and a state wide strategy. Currently, the Network Tapestry Team is developing relationships, mapping the network structure, and identifying tasks, timelines, and other potential network organizations. The current Tapestry Team consists of the Virginia Department of Education, Virginia Resource-Use Education Council, Virginia Interfaith Power and Light, Virginia Association for Environmental Education, Virginia Department of Conservation & Recreation, Virginia Science Leadership Association, Virginia Association of Science Teachers, and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.
